How do I log a one-off purchase, a subscription or a consumable in Coday?
Updated
When you add an item, tap Pricing (it starts on "One-off · Per day"). Pick One-off for something you buy once, with Per day or Per use; Subscription for anything charged each period; and "One-off · Consumable" for things that run out, like tissues or cat litter. A price and a date are enough to save, and you can fill in the rest later on the item's page.
Pick a pricing mode first
Tap to add an item. Under the name, price and date is the Pricing row. Tap it and the choices are grouped by how you pay:
| Payment | Pricing | Spread over | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-off | Per day | Days owned | Phones, laptops, furniture |
| One-off | Per use | Uses | Rackets, lenses, clothes for big occasions |
| One-off | Consumable | Units bought | Tissues, coffee pods, cat litter |
| Subscription | Per day | Averaged over the year | Streaming, cloud storage, annual passes |
| Subscription | Per use | Uses | A gym pass you'd rather count by visits |
You can change it after saving: edit the item and pick a different Pricing. For how each average is worked out, see how cost per day, per use and per unit are calculated.
One-off: phones, cameras, furniture
- Enter the name, price and purchase date.
- Leave Pricing on "One-off · Per day". For things you use now and then, switch to "One-off · Per use" and enter how many times you've used it so far.
- Save.
Later:
- Per use: tap "Use once" on the item's page each time you use it, or "Remove 1 use" if you tapped by mistake.
- Warranty: tap the Warranty chip at the bottom of the form and enter the end date or how long it lasts. You'll get a reminder before it ends.
- Additional costs like accessories or repairs: tap "Log expense" on the item's page. To fill them in while adding, set Additional Costs to Expanded or Collapsed under Customize.
- Sold it or stopped using it: edit the item and set Status to "Sold" or "Retired".
Subscription: streaming, cloud storage, annual passes
- Set Pricing to "Subscription · Per day". The price box becomes "Price per Period" and the date becomes "Start Date".
- Under Every, choose how often you're charged: every so many days, weeks, months or years. It starts on every 1 month.
- If there's a trial, turn on Trial Period and enter the trial days and trial price (0 for a free trial).
- Save.
Later:
- Price went up or down: tap "Edit price" on the item's page and choose which period the new price starts from. If you entered it wrong in the first place, choose "I entered it wrong" and past charges are redone too.
- Unsubscribed: edit the item, set Status to "Retired" and enter the Cancellation Date. The average stays where it was on that day, and renewal reminders stop.
- See all your subscriptions: on Home, tap View at the top left and pick Subscription. They're lined up by next charge, with what you pay per month and per day at the top.
- You're reminded 3 days before a renewal and 2 days before a trial ends. To change that, see what reminders Coday has.
Consumable: tissues, coffee pods, cat litter
- Set Pricing to "One-off · Consumable".
- Enter what this batch cost as the price, and how many you bought as the Quantity.
- Choose how it gets used up:
- With each use (the default): how much each use takes, like 1 per use.
- Over time: how much goes every so many days, like 1 a day.
- Save.
Later:
- Logging use: for "With each use", tap "Use once" on the item's page. "Over time" counts down by itself.
- Restocking: on Home, tap View at the top left and pick Consumables, then tap Restock on that item and enter how many you bought and what you paid. The cost per unit counts every batch together.
- When it runs out: for "Over time" the date is worked out exactly; for "With each use" it's estimated from how you've been using it lately and marked as an estimate. You're reminded to restock when it's running low.
- For an item that needs several supplies (cat food and cat litter for your cat), tap the Stock chip at the bottom of the form to add another.
Brush heads and filters: track what's left
For parts that wear out and get replaced, like brush heads, filters or a class pass, use Remaining. It isn't on the form by default, so first set Remaining to Expanded or Collapsed under Customize:
- Tap Remaining and pick a name such as Brush head or Filter, or type your own.
- Under Lasts, enter how long it lasts. Choose days to count by time or uses to count by use: a brush head might be 90 days, a class pass 10 uses.
You're reminded when it's nearly due, and a notice appears at the top of the item's page. Once you've replaced it, tap Reset on that notice.
