How do I keep track of expiration dates for food and cosmetics?

Updated

Write down when each thing expires and let your phone remind you a few days ahead, so you use it up in time. In Coday: add the food or cosmetic, tap the Shelf life chip at the end of the form, and enter the expiry date from the pack. You're reminded 7 days before, and it can retire itself once it expires. Free, no sign-in needed.

How to log it

  1. Add an item with its name, price and purchase date.
  2. Tap the Shelf life chip at the end of the form. The date printed on the pack is the most accurate; if you enter a length of time instead, it counts from the purchase date.
  3. Save. The item's page shows how many days are left.

How far ahead you're reminded

By default 7 days before, at 9 AM. For things like face cream or sunscreen where you want more time to finish them, change it to 30 days: tap the reminder on the Shelf life card, or tap it under You → Reminders. You can go up to 365 days ahead.

Retire it automatically when it expires

Turn on "Auto-retire When Due" on the Shelf life card and the item retires itself once it's past the date. Its average stops on that day and the reminders stop.

Things you buy again and again: log them as consumables

For milk, sheet masks and anything you rebuy when it runs out, set Pricing to "One-off · Consumable". It also keeps track of how many you have, the cost per unit and when you'll run out, and reminds you to restock; see how to get reminded to restock household supplies. When you buy a new batch, edit the item and change the shelf life to the new batch's date.

For warranties, return windows and other end dates, see how to get reminded before a warranty runs out.
